Alfred University String Orchestra to perform Friday with alumnus Aaron Vit ’21

Aaron Vit ’21, an Alfred University alumnus who studied mechanical engineering in the Inamori School of Engineering, will join the Alfred University String Orchestra Friday night, in Miller Theater, where the orchestra will present an eclectic program ranging from the Baroque era to the modern period and including works by Vivaldi, Michael Haydn, Shostakovich, and Scott Joplin.

Vit, a member of the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, will perform as soloist on electric violin, playing his own arrangement of The Piano Guys’ “Beethoven’s 5 Secrets.” Vit was unable to perform his arrangement while he was an undergraduate due to Covid restrictions.

Lisa Lantz, Professor of Music/Strings, Performing Arts Division, will direct the Strings Orchestra from her position in the First Violin Section.

Friday’s performance kicks off a weekend of musical performance. The Alfred University Concert Band will perform at 7:30 pm Saturday, Nov. 16, in Miller Theater. Under the direction of Dr. Linda Boianova, Eastman School of Music, the Concert Band will perform a selection of folk music, ragtime, samba and jazz.

On Sunday, Nov. 17, the Performing Arts Division will present the Music Student Recital, beginning at 7:30 pm in Miller Theater. The evening of music will feature vocal and instrument performances by Alfred University music students.

As a member of the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, Vit performs in numerous venues in western New York, including the Ithaca Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker.”

When not in performance, he works as a design engineer for Briggs of Burton PLC, an engineering firm specializing in hygienic pipe design. He has worked on a variety of distilling and brewing projects for leading companies in the field, including Anheuser Busch, Diageo and Jim Beam, and at various locations in Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
